EN 50121-3-2 Railway applications - Electromagnetic compatibility - Part 3-2: Rolling stock Ð Apparatus
EMC Technologies is an internationally accredited and totally independent Australian owned company providing a specialist Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) engineering, testing, consultation and special projects service to all areas of the electrical/electronics industry (including aerospace, military and rail). Electrical Safety and Telecomms testing is also provided. Over 40 technical specialists and administrative staff support comprehensive facilities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland (NZ).
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) refers to the ability of an electrical or electronic device or system to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic interference (EMI) to devices in that environment and without itself being affected by EMI from other devices in that environment.
EMC encompasses controls of both unintentional emissions from a range of products that can interfere with radio-communications and protection of a range of devices that may be susceptible to intentional transmissions.
EMC Technologies has conducted comprehensive EMC studies in many railway projects for customers such as the Land & Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore, Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) Hong Kong, Queensland Rail (QR) Australia and ADTRANZ just to name a few.
Responsibilities in these projects included:
- The interpretation of EMI/EMC requirements as applicable to the customer requirements.
- Assistance in the preparation of documentation (Quality Plan, Control Plan, Test Plan & Specification and Design Document), provision of technical guidance to system and equipment design.
- Analysis of EMC performance and installation design of the system and to identify areas of risk.
- Studies and surveys to identify potential external EMI sources.
- Support engineering and test efforts in resolving EMC problems and non- compliance.
- Analysis of equipment / system on EMI/EMC test data and reports, and advise on approval/rejection of equipment / system for release.
- Conduct conformity Assessment procedures on submitted TCF and issue a report, which accepts or rejects the supplierÕs claims of compliance based on the TCF.
