EMC Technologies Pty Ltd is the most accredited Electromagnetic measurement laboratory and engineering consultancy company in Australia, providing NATA accredited EMR surveys, SAR measurements and professional engineering assessments of transmitter sites, radio frequency (RF) devices and machines. The laboratories are NATA accredited for the measurement of RF Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) in accordance with AS/NZS2772.2: to assess compliance with the ARPANSA standard (formelry AS/NZS 2772.1 (int)1998). This standard has now been replaced with the ARPANSA standard. SAR standards EN62209-1, EN50360, EN50361 and FCC OET 65 are also covered.

It is known that exposure of the human body to high levels of EMR may lead to adverse health effects. To ensure the protection of personnel in the workplace and to protect members of the general public, it is essential that the EMR levels around these EMR sources must comply with the limits set by the standards.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), State and federal Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations and similar overseas regulators place the responsibility for the safe operation of telecommunications facilities and RF machines, on licence holders and employers.

Measurement results obtained from RF EMR surveys are used to develop safe working practices and to protect the public from over exposure. The risk of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or Radio Frequency interference (RFI) to electronic equipment within that environment must also be evaluated. The site survey is designed to locate all areas that exceed the maximum exposure level so that access to those dangerous areas can be restricted. The survey results are the critical elements of the Site Radiation Folder (similar to a Site Management Book). The accuracy and credibility of the results is therefore of paramount importance. A NATA accredited measurement survey provides the highest level of confidence that the site is in compliance, to prevent accidental over exposure to humans, and to prevent possible malfunction of electronic equipment in adjacent buildings. Measurements are performed on the following:

Broadband, narrowband and pulsed RF measurements are performed over the range 3 kHz to 50 GHz. Comprehensive spectrum plots are provided clearly identifying the frequency and level of all significant EMR sources. NATA endorsed reports may be used to label and signpost the facilities into "go/no-go" areas and to alert people to the potential risk of exposure to high EMR levels. NATA reports are generally accepted in a court of law and by the ACMA, as the highest confidence of proof of compliance. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing is also provided for mobile phones, body worn devices and RF transmitters that are used in close proximity to the body.

Resources

Services are provided throughout Australia, New Zealand and other countries using state-of-the-art instruments calibrated to NATA requirements. Resources include multiple sets of instrumentation and equipment, a staff of over 43 personnel including 6 NATA signatories, expert engineers, technicians and support staff. This allows all projects large and small to be completed promptly and professionally. All measurements are carried out with sophisticated equipment that has current NATA/NMI/NPL traceable calibration. Our staff are work-safe trained for working at heights and for tower climbing. EMC technologies is also a Mobile Carrier Forum (MCF) listed supplier.
