SAR testing upgrade 30 MHz to 6 GHzAugust 2005 View pdf of document here (170 kB) RF transmitters used in close proximity to the human body must be evaluated
against human exposure standards which set basic restrictions for the Specific
Absorption Rate (SAR) of RF energy by any part of the human body. This may
include two way radios, cellular phones, spread spectrum and Bluetooth devices,
two way radios, wireless EFTPOS terminals, WLAN devices used in notebook/laptop
computers. Virtually all devices exceeding the power threshold of 20 mW and used
in close proximity to the human body must comply with SAR requirements. Major Upgrade of SAR Test FacilitiesEMC technologies commenced SAR testing in 1999 and is *NATA accredited for SAR testing to the latest Australian and international SAR standards and regulations. The scope of the NATA accreditation now includes EN50361, IEEE1528, the ACA EMR standard 2003 Schedules 1 and 2, and FCC OET65C 01/01. The new standard IEC62209 will shortly be added to the scope. SAR test capability has been extended to include measurement and validation for the most common frequencies between 30 MHz to 5.8 GHz. Continual investment in reference dipoles, flat phantoms and SAR measurement probes allows compliant head and body SAR measurements over most of the frequency range including the difficult bands at 150 MHz, 300 MHz, 1600 MHz, 2100 MHz, 3500MHz, 5 GHz, 5.2 GHz and 5.8GHz. The purchase of a fully optioned R&S CMU200 allows us to test virtually all mobile/cellular phones on the world market. The capability includes AMPS, GSM, EGSM, E-GPRS, CDMA, WCDMA, UMTS and most G2.5/G3 devices. This includes WLAN transmitters employed in Laptop PCs, Notebooks, Tablets and PDAs which utilise WLAN standards IEEE 802.11b, g, a and WiFi/WiMAX devices.
Comprehensive SAR facilities include:
Now into our seventh year of SAR testing and research and in conjunction with our close links with the world leaders in SAR research and measurement through a technical support agreement, our clients have access to authoritative technical support in all aspects of SAR compliance. *Note: NATA has mutual recognition agreements with most accreditation bodies around the world including UKAS, A2LA, NVLAP, DAR, etc.
