Meet Our Team
Chris Zombolas
Director & Co-founder
Chris is a director and founder of EMC Technologies Pty Ltd in 1992. Specialising in EMC, EMF/EMR, SAR, Safety and Radiocoms testing and approvals for over 40 years, he is arguably one of the the most experienced engineer in this field in Australia. He is an EMC Competent Body and a member of the ACMA Technical Working Group, an associate member of the FCC TCB Council (USA), the European RED Compliance Association and a NATA Assessor.
When he is not working, Chris enjoys a regular workout at the gym, jogging and wine tasting.
SHABBIR AHMED, PhD MIEEE
CEO of EMC Technologies
Shabbir has a PhD in RF Systems. He has over 10 years of experience in academia and research. He joined EMC Technologies in 2017 and now is the chief executive officer (CEO) of the EMC Technologies group. He specialises in RF, mmWave, and 5G technologies. He is a NATA signatory and an active member of the FCC TCB Council. He is also involved in EMC testing, calibration and major consultancy projects.
Stephen Phillips
Systems Manager and Co-founder
Stephen Phillips is the Technical Manager and co-founder of EMC Technologies Pty Ltd. With over 38 years’ experience in the defence, aerospace and commercial electronics industries, with the last 32 years concentrated in the EMI/EMC/EMR fields. Steve is a NATA signatory and NATA Technical Assessor for EMC & EMR testing. Steve has been involved in thousands of EMC/EMR tests and investigations and enjoys solving real-life EMC problems.
When he is not working, Steve loves to practice yoga and fly model aircraft and drones.
Tracy Newman
Quality Assurance Manager EMC Technologies, Sydney
Tracy is the Quality Manager of the EMC Technologies group’s Laboratories. Tracy has over 10+ years’ experience liaising with NATA and ensuring the organizations Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, ISO and regulatory requirements. Tracy enjoys spending time with family, painting and keeping fit in her spare time.
James Chu
Technical Manager, EMC Technologies, Sydney
James Chu is the Technical manager of the EMC Technologies group’s Sydney based safety testing laboratory. James is EMC Technologies groups most experienced product testing expert, with over 20+ years’ experience in the electrical safety field. With his previous experience in small electrical appliance design and manufacturing, James has a more practical approach in product safety. James enjoys spending time with family, reading in his spare time.
Neville Liyanapatabendige
Manager EMC Bayswater
Neville is the Manager of EMC Bayswater and has held various technical roles within the company including senior engineer. Neville has over a decade of product compliance experience, with extensive EMC and Radio testing expertise. He also has specialist knowledge in automotive, military & commercial EMC testing and is a NATA signatory.
Neville enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid cricket fan.

Andrew Cutler
General Manager, EMC Technologies, Auckland
Andrew has been the General Manager of EMC Technologies NZ Ltd since 1998 when the assets of the Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) Laboratory were purchased. From 1990 Andrew was the RSM laboratory manager. Andrew has almost 30 years of experience in EMC emissions and immunity testing and certification. He also has a wealth of Radio testing and certification knowledge. In his spare time Andrew enjoys ocean swimming, getting out into the great outdoors and spending time with his family.
Sharon Catterall
EMC Technologies, New Zealand
Fifteen years in the UK defence industry as an Electronic Engineer – PCB design, Chair and organiser of EM Working Group; EMC Engineer – EMC testing, RF Safety assessments, EMF Directive implementation plan for the company, UKAS Technical Manger. Prior to that, sixteen years in Telecommunications as Senior RF Test Engineer – base stations and mobile phones. First Class BSc (Hons) Engineering (Electronics & Communication) – Lincoln University.
Enjoy swimming, walking, being outdoors and spending time with my family.
Rafeeque Mohamed
Safety Manager, EMC Technologies, Melbourne
Rafeeque has previously 11 years’ experience in Electrical Safety Testing and been in Quality Compliance Officer role with global testing companies such as TUV Rhineland Australia, SGS Australia & Clipsal Integrated Systems. Rafeeque has extensive experience in NBN (National Broadband Networks) working with delivery partners such as BSA Limited, UCG and Service Stream. Rafeeque also worked with Asianet Satellite Communications Limited, India and was awarded ‘The Titan Award 2005’ in recognition of outstanding initiative & exemplary output. Rafeeque’s enjoys playing tennis, cricket, volunteer work, travelling, reading and writing.
