EMC Technologies environmental testing
EMC Technologies is A2LA accredited (pending) for salt spray corrosion environmental testing.
What is salt spray, mist or fog corrosion testing?
The salt mist test is performed to determine the effectiveness of protective coatings and finishes on materials. It may also be applied to determine the effects of salt deposits on the physical and electrical aspects of material.
Salt spray corrosion testing is a common and widely used test process to assess the resistance of material and coatings of materials to corrosion. Standards typically rate the exposure in hours, typically defined in the relevant product standard and grades by the intended environment.
Why do accelerated corrosion testing
Accelerated testing allows products to be artificially under controlled conditions to be subjected to corrosion that in a real environment may take much longer to occur. This effectively means that instead of waiting years to determine if your product will corrode. This helps ensure that the products materials or finish are suitable for the intended environment and could also reduce the number of product returns. This test is mandatory for some standards but can also be applied when corrosion is not mandated but the product requires testing for quality assurance purposes.
This test does not attempt to duplicate the complex environment but, rather, it provides a generally stressful situation that may reveal potential problem areas in material, thereby evaluating the effectiveness and quality of protective coatings and finishes on material and material coupons, and to locate potential problem areas, quality control deficiencies, design flaws, etc., in a relatively short period of time.
