What is shock and vibration testing?
Shock and vibration testing are to simulate extreme conditions that may occur when a product is used, shipped, mishandled or dropped. Testing in a controlled environment allows monitoring of the effects of the test profile and assess the products performance and resistance to shocks and vibrations.
Why should you perform shock and vibration testing?
To ensure the correct operation of your product and ensure that it meets its function now and in the future, it is essential to perform shock and vibration testing in accordance with the products expected environment and use. Testing is mandatory in some regulations and product standards and therefore are part of the overall environmental testing compliance. Transportation test profiles provide confidence that your product arrives at its destination i.e. the end-user intact without damage, this can result in reduced product returns.
Every product is vulnerable to vibration loads and shock impact. That includes small objects like circuit boards and cell phones right up to giant structures like bridges and skyscrapers.
Vibration and shock test is to determine if materials can withstand the inescapable vibration and shock occurred in our daily lives, including:
- Road, rail, naval or aerial transportation.
- Engine or electric motor operation.
- Air current turbulence.
- Acceleration.
- Impact.
- Unloading and dropping goods.
- Explosion.
We have large programmable shock and vibration test platform at our Melbourne branch which can accommodate most consumer products.
Melbourne – Equipment specifications:
- Frequency Range: 0-2,500 Hz
- Max force: 29.6 kN
- Max payload: 454 kg
- Peak-peak displacement: 76.2mm
- Sine sweep vibration
- Random vibration
- Shock impulses: half-sine, sawtooth wave, and trapezoid.
- Shock vs. Load Rating*: 30g at 332kg, 50g at 119kg, 85g at 12kg *11 msec, half-sine shock pulse.
